How the game changes

  • Checks: Item and equipment discoveries throughout the adventure, including life capsules and quest rewards. Exact availability depends on the selected starting point and ending.
  • Items: Weapons, keys, quest items, life capsules and missile upgrades, including Progressive Polar Star and Progressive Booster.
  • Goals: Choose the bad, normal or best ending; best is the default.
  • Options: Start at Start Point, Arthur's House or Camp. Early Weapon defaults to a practical weapon; an alternative includes weapons that may require grinding. Sacred Grounds excludes progression by default. Optional DeathLink and removal of falling blocks in Sacred Grounds B2.

Before you start

  • Install the APWorld and download a separate copy of cave-story-randomizer. Open Cave Story Client in the Archipelago Launcher, select the randomizer's root folder containing pre_edited_cs, connect to the room, then launch through the client. Linux requires Tweaked. The client patches files inside that selected directory, so use a dedicated copy.
  • This listing concerns Freeware/Tweaked, not a confirmed Cave Story+ Steam integration. Linux support is documented but has not been tested here. The separate randomizer release observed is 2.4.3 and has no release assets; its code, binaries and compatibility with this APWorld remain unreviewed. No runtime or security certification is claimed.
  • Keep the client, game and APWorld versions paired; compatibility with other combinations is not established in the reviewed sources.
