How the game changes
- Build a railway career with randomized station access, locomotive and job licences, equipment, garage keys and demonstrator restoration stages. Completing selected work sends checks to your multiworld.
- Choose a goal based on enough jobs across a chosen number of stations, or restoring and painting a chosen number of demonstrator locomotives. Job reports and /slicenses show career progress.
- Optional checks cover 57 possible demonstrator spawn sites and 12 museum milestones. Location names in 0.3.1 are more precise, and visible signs indicate whether the required station and museum licences are available.
- Configure starting licences, money, job counts, licence prices, double-job tokens and hints. Version 0.3.1 corrects the inverted vanilla/AP-gated demonstrator setting and saves the licence-screen scouting cache.
- Station licences govern check and goal credit. You can still earn ordinary job income at other stations, as explained in the setup guide.
Before you start
- The reviewed release is v0.3.1. Install its Randomizer.zip with Unity Mod Manager and its separate derail_valley.apworld in Archipelago; the APWorld manifest internally reports 0.3.0 and requires Archipelago 0.6.7 or newer. Exact game and UMM versions are not pinned.
- Enter server, port, slot and password in the mod panel, enable Create a new Archipelago save on new career, then start a new career. Keep a backup of the save and use the same room and slot when resuming; current code reads global mod settings rather than credentials stored in the career.
- Use AP-gated demonstrators when choosing the restoration goal or museum checks. In vanilla demonstrator mode, the World removes progressive locomotive items while those rules still require them; the offered combination is not consistently modelled.
- Fully randomized starting station, job or locomotive licences can leave you waiting for another player before you can work. Choose an available starting set for a self-starting run. Job counts can make the career long; the maintainer also identifies museum progression as an area needing balance work.
- Keep DeathLink disabled: the setup marks it as not working properly. Back up ordinary careers, disable the mod before loading them, and restart the game when switching away from an AP career. An inspected ordinary-save loading path accesses AP player state without a guard.
- Connection recovery is limited. Login, scouting and reconnect paths can wait synchronously; unacknowledged checks are not durably queued by the mod, and queued item effects can lag behind the saved receipt index. Avoid continuing important actions through a connection failure.
- The room password uses the normal saved mod setting. The bundled WebSocket client can fall back to plaintext and does not validate the server certificate by default. This review does not establish protection of room credentials over untrusted connections.
- No game session or downloaded tests were executed. The packaged World scripts match the pinned sources after newline normalization and the DLL was statically inspected. A full rebuild and complete distribution-notice coverage were not established; source licensing exists, but the mod ZIP omits its root code notices.
