How the game changes
- Checks: Consumable pickups, secret missions, adjudicators, boss rewards and mission completions; gun-upgrade purchases can also be checks.
- Items: Weapons, key items, blue and purple orbs, optional weapon skills, gun levels and progressive Dante styles.
- Goals: Complete Mission 20 in Standard mode, all missions, or all missions in a randomized order. Mission checks also follow the selected rank and difficulty requirements.
- Options: Starting weapons, adjudicator weapon/rank requirements, skills and styles, gun upgrades, Devil Trigger access and required mission ranks. Higher adjudicator ranks can make the run significantly harder.
Before you start
- Requires Devil May Cry HD Collection on Steam, not the older standalone PC release. The setup guide calls for a compatible-version downgrade, DMCHDLoader and the v0.5.2 randomizer DLL; install the separate v0.5.1 APWorld and connect the DMC3 client before starting a new AP game. Back up the original save first.
- The APWorld manifest requires Archipelago 0.6.3. GOG is untested, Linux setup is described as experimental, and Steam Deck is explicitly untested. DDMK and Crimson can conflict with the randomizer or bypass progression. The release ZIP contains only a DLL; its correspondence to the pinned Rust source was not verified.
- The APWorld v0.5.1 package and Windows client v0.5.2 are separate release artifacts. Do not assume other combinations, the current Steam build or live game behavior are compatible without the maintainer's version guidance.
- In the APWorld release, Gun Store Checks is an active option and adds ten gun-level purchase checks. The pinned repository snapshot still labels that option as not yet implemented; the release package is the basis for the mechanics page. Skill-purchase checks remain unimplemented.
