How the game changes
- Weapons, keys, powerups and exit switches provide checks. Level-access items and map-specific keycards control progression.
- The hub allows leaving and revisiting levels while preserving their state, with built-in key and check tracking.
- Complete the enabled campaign sections; secret maps can be added alongside a main section.
- Choose skill level, randomized monsters and pickups, music shuffle, mirrored maps and starting computer maps.
- Customize backpack capacity and split upgrades by ammunition type. DeathLink and map resets are optional, while Pro logic can require advanced tricks.
Before you start
- This uses original DOOM II data from Steam's DOOM + DOOM II collection. The shared artwork and review count represent that collection, not a separate DOOM II store audience.
- Select DOOM II in the APDoom 2.0 launcher and use the original DOS DOOM2.WAD. Rerelease WADs can have visual or compatibility problems; shareware is not a substitute.
- Legacy APDoom 1.2.0 is no longer supported. Migrate to a clean 2.0 folder and keep old saves backed up; do not mix 32-bit and 64-bit dependencies.
- The stable 2.0 client supports the core APWorld. Optional beta worlds and custom campaigns are separate choices, not prerequisites for this listing.
- Allow Death Logic can put progression behind a one-attempt puzzle that requires a map reset after failure. Leave advanced tricks and this option off if unfamiliar with the maps.
- Windows and native Linux/AppImage packages are available, including Steam Deck support. This does not establish compatibility with every third-party WAD or native co-op arrangement.
