The pinned APWorld defines 503 addressed checks across 32 S.T.R.A.I.N. maps. Episodes 1–3 are enabled by default and provide 469 checks: 30 exits with fixed completion events plus 439 randomized pickup slots. Episode 4 adds Secret and Super-Secret, 34 more checks, and is off by default. Barracks, Power Station and Maintenance are precollected as the three episode starts. The item table contributes 148 base copies before those maps are precollected; 145 remain in the default pool. On Medium, source ratios fill the 439 slots with 171 weighted helpful items, 26 random filler items and 97 junk items. Eight one-attempt checks remain active but are excluded from progression placement unless Allow Death Logic is enabled. These counts follow the package tables and generator code; no seed or game session was run.

Browse the gameplay families that can send checks to your multiworld.

503 location checksDefault marks checks from configurations selected by standard options; the generated set can still vary with logic and seed.

Playing with others

One solo S.T.R.A.I.N. campaign per Archipelago slot, exchanging items with other games. Players can progress together or in separate sessions while the room is available; same-map co-op is not established here.

Known scope and limitations

  • This is an additional campaign, not a separate Steam game. The Steam link, artwork and review total describe the DOOM + DOOM II base collection. You need your own DOOM2.WAD plus the separate STRAIN.WAD and STRAIN.DEH files.
  • Install doom2_strain.apworld in both Archipelago's custom_worlds folder and APDoom's games folder. Keep the package intact: its STRAIN_ExtraAPData.wad supplies supplementary interface graphics. Select DOOM II - S.T.R.A.I.N. for the slot.
  • Use the original campaign files from the linked repackaged archive, retaining its notices. Place STRAIN.WAD and STRAIN.DEH beside APDoom. The old DOS installers are historical extras and are not needed for this route. Do not substitute a different source-port-fixed edition without compatibility guidance.
  • Use APDoom 2.0 with the July custom-world loading hotfix and Archipelago 0.6.3 or newer. Prefer original DOS DOOM2.WAD data. The dated APWorld version is not the client version; unrelated gameplay mods are not covered.
  • Keep starting ammunition capacity at its defaults: 200 bullets and 50 each for shells, batteries and rockets. Lower limits are explicitly warned as potentially logically unsafe. Leave advanced tricks and death logic off for a conservative first configuration.
  • Start with a fresh client directory and back up saves. Do not mix old 32-bit client dependencies with APDoom 2.0 or change a room's world package during a campaign without compatibility guidance.
  • The package, shared generator rules and required-file inventory were reviewed, not independently played through. Windows and Linux/AppImage are documented client routes. The original campaign's co-op support does not establish same-map co-op support in this integration.
