How the game changes
- Trade hero, map, defense and ability unlocks across a multiworld while completing wave, victory and optional survival/challenge checks. Higher difficulty clears also credit selected lower-difficulty checks.
- Choose The Summit, a target number of different challenges, or Crystalline Dimension as your goal. The CD route supports Shards and optional extra campaign maps; check density and goal difficulty control the scope.
- Version 0.8.0 adds Skill Shuffle: defenses and abilities can move between selected heroes, either in separate pools or mixed. Some actions remain tied to their native hero. Select only heroes whose DLC you own.
- Shopsanity adds 27 tavern purchases, with nine more Platinum purchases for CD goals after 12 distinct map clears. CD bank-mana rewards scale with completed maps and are fixed when received.
- Other options include local/global map items, progressive difficulty and mode access, survival starting waves, defense units, build time, experience/catch-up multipliers and cosmetics. The release also changes Zippy Terror starting DU and repeated crystal-unlock popups.
Before you start
- Install the paired v0.8.0 APWorld and TotalConversions ZIP for the regular Steam game, with Archipelago 0.6.7 or newer. Extract the supplied TotalConversions folder into the game directory, edit the bundled YAML, generate/host a room and open Dungeon Defenders Client. Choose Play Local; DDDK is not needed to play.
- Use English and keep Steam signed in. Select owned DLC heroes; higher difficulties and Shards content require the relevant game content. The reviewed native package targets the regular x64 game. A Linux/Steam launch branch exists in Python, but this review does not establish a tested Proton or exact game-version matrix.
- This conversion is for local Dungeon Defenders play, exchanging items through Archipelago. It does not provide online Dungeon Defenders co-op. The maintainer still describes it as unstable.
- Keep progressive difficulty disabled for the clearest goal alignment. When enabled, the World also requires difficulty unlocks up to Ruthless for Summit and Challenges completion, even with a lower chosen goal difficulty; the client reports the chosen victory/count without that additional requirement.
- Close the game before changing seed, team or slot. The client automatically switches the conversion hero profile and reward state, with backups and recovery records. Run one client at a time, back up saves and merge updates into the existing conversion rather than deleting its folder.
- The current client stores indexed item history and pending checks, retries writes and reads a retained game-event journal. Game connection is confirmed separately from server login. The localhost bridge is unauthenticated; matching current native reward/event paths could not be fully reviewed.
- The actual APWorld contains readable 0.8.0 Python and its release hash was verified. Most of it differs from the tagged source tree, which still includes older documentation, tests and a 0.5.1 manifest. Current native game hooks and a complete rebuild are not established from that tree.
- The conversion includes compiled game dependencies and texture caches. Source notes report permission from the owner, but the supporting authorization scope and a source reuse licence were not available in the examined material. No game session or downloaded tests were run.
