How the game changes

  • All fifty-one Firefight 2.0 levels are available for selection. Choose twelve to fifty-one levels for the room, with sixteen as the default and three starting level unlocks supplied automatically.
  • The default goal collects fifteen of twenty EdenSys Root Keys and then clears a designated final level. A separate key-hunt goal finishes on the required key count without that final fight. Both the total and required counts are configurable.
  • Each ordinary selected level offers checks for ten kills, clearing all enemies, seven headshots and ranks B through S++. These are run achievements tracked by the client rather than a shuffle of the story campaign.
  • Target-time checks, completing both vanilla challenges and custom stylish-action challenges are separate optional additions, all off by default. Stylish challenges add one to five objectives per level and require the corresponding action license.
  • Progressive Multiplier Burn Rate Reduction and Progressive Fresh Cooldown Reduction make sustained combos easier. Level-specific Double Score and Target Time Discount items help with score and speed objectives.
  • Optional overpowered items grant unlimited ammunition, unlimited cannon ammunition or invincibility on particular levels. The setting is automatically disabled for fewer than twenty levels, including the default sixteen-level configuration.
  • A separate Invincible Mode provides global invincibility from the start. It is off by default and can make a run focus on style rather than survival.
  • Optional mutator and mirrored-level percentages assign required conditions to selected levels. Rank and target-time requirements can use global or per-level settings. Score defaults to one hundred percent; optional target times default to one hundred twenty-five percent.
  • Eight optional trap types alter post-processing or time speed. Traps default to zero percent; their weights and duration are adjustable. Universal Tracker can be embedded in the client when installed, without needing the original YAML.
  • Version 1.0.1 updates game-memory detection for the anniversary update, normalizes level names and adjusts Triple Threat score and stylish-action targets. The final goal level is excluded from ordinary mutator and mirrored check requirements.

Before you start

  • Use the 1.0.1 APWorld with the Windows Steam game and Archipelago 0.6.7 or newer. The release targets the anniversary update and is described by its maintainer as compatible with rooms generated on 1.0.0. Linux, Proton and other storefronts have not been validated.
  • Install severed_steel.apworld, launch Severed Steel to its main menu, then open Severed Steel Client and connect to the room and slot. No separate game-mod archive is required. Keep the client connected while playing and use its Severed Steel tab for requirements.
  • This client reads and changes game memory. The guide recommends DirectX 12 and identifies an executable digest, but the client attaches by process name without enforcing that digest. A process-found message alone does not establish compatibility with your installed game build.
  • Firefight level menus remain accessible before their unlock items arrive. Checks count only in selected, unlocked levels with the required mutator and mirrored state. The final goal level has no ordinary checks or modifier requirement.
  • The client unlocks mutators and mirrored mode and attempts to suppress leaderboard submissions while active. Back up ordinary progress, use one client and fully restart the game before returning to a normal session; stopping the client does not restore every changed parameter.
  • Stay connected through each run and verify important checks before closing the client. Checks are marked locally before server acknowledgement and lack a durable retry record, while actions performed offline are not imported from the normal save. Replaying a run may be necessary after interruption.
  • Victory is retried while the client remains connected, but its completion flag and pending progress are not saved across a full client restart. Reconnect to the same slot before resuming; do not assume a previously displayed goal proves server receipt.
  • Overpowered ammunition and invincibility items are disabled below twenty selected levels, including the default sixteen, and disabled for the final goal level. Global Invincible Mode is separate. Oops All The Same currently selects mutators per level despite its description suggesting one shared choice.
  • Traps default to off. Their expiry handling pauses outside a selected unfinished run, and disconnect does not undo every active effect. Restart the game if visual or speed effects persist unexpectedly.
  • Logs can contain connection details. Prefer an explicit wss:// server address when the room supports it, avoid credentials in a connection URL, and redact diagnostics before sharing. Neither DeathLink nor native co-op is implemented.
