How the game changes

  • Unlock characters, shop slots and shop locks through the multiworld. Checks come from completed waves, victories with different characters and collected common or legendary crates.
  • Version 0.16.0 adds Progressive Wave Cap items for each character. The default two-cap setting opens waves 1–10 first; receiving that character’s cap increase opens waves 11–20.
  • Choose the included and starting characters, wave-check spacing, crate groups and distinct-character victory target. The target is capped at the number of included characters.
  • Tiered items, upgrades, gold and XP use separate reward handlers. Reward settings control whether gold and XP apply once or again on each new run.
  • Single-player runs can be saved per character on the AP server, retried from the previous shop and resumed while connected. Local co-op can earn checks but does not use this AP run-saving path.
  • The update adds Universal Tracker character information, reduces maximum victory/crate settings and spaces crate-group unlocks across the requested wins. DeathLink remains optional.

Before you start

  • Use the matching v0.16.0 mod ZIP and APWorld. The mod declares Brotato 1.1.15.0 and ModLoader 6.0.0. Steam and Epic setup are documented; Xbox/Game Pass is unsupported. These are declared requirements, not independently tested environments.
  • Avoid Number of Progressive Wave Caps = one in this release: its encoded value reaches a division by zero in the World. Keep common and legendary crate-check counts above zero, because the client assumes each has a first group. High cap counts also need enough checks to hold the required items.
  • The release is v0.16.0 and the mod reports 0.16.0, but brotato.apworld still declares world_version 0.15.0 internally. This is a metadata discrepancy, not evidence that an older download was reviewed.
  • Use manual ZIP installation to keep the selected version while finishing a multiworld; Workshop subscriptions may update it automatically. Follow the documented placement and leave the ZIP compressed.
  • Pause play after a connection loss and reconnect deliberately. The main client state can remain connected after the socket closes; checks and final status have no durable retry queue. Confirm important progress on the server after an interruption.
  • Received-item batches are not deduplicated by their protocol index. Interrupted delivery, replayed batches and asynchronous one-time gold/XP bookkeeping can produce inconsistent effects; no frequency of failure was measured.
  • AP run saves depend on server storage and are not locally isolated by a checked seed/slot identity. Co-op runs are not saved through this path. Keep independent backups and avoid changing rooms while retaining an active run.
  • The connection password is saved in mod configuration, and the client can fall back from secure to unencrypted WebSocket. Do not reuse a sensitive password; keep configuration files private.
  • All 139 mod files and 35 of 36 World files match the tagged source; the remaining manifest has generated compatibility fields. The source MIT licence is absent from the release ZIPs, and complete notices/permissions for adapted game routines and artwork are not established by the reviewed package.
