How the game changes
- Checks: 86 possible location rows cover named pawn and piece captures, capture milestones, King moves, threats, forks, turn-survival checks, castling and two board goals. The default enables 80; six fork checks require Enable Tactics: All.
- Items: 15 item types include progressive pawns and pieces, pocket pieces and supplies, optional AI penalties, King upgrades, extra Kings and two goal items. Source quantities are caps; actual pool counts vary with options and generation.
- Goals: Single ends on the standard board; Ordered Progressive (default) clears Minima then Maxima; Progressive expands when Super-Size Me arrives; Super starts expanded. Maintainer docs describe victory as checkmate and say a player with multiple Kings loses once all their Kings are captured.
- Options: Choose Daily difficulty by default, piece placement and type, early material, fairy armies and pawns, piece limits, pocket depth, optional DeathLink and asymmetric Jacks. Generation Difficulty changes logic expectations; Maximum Engine Penalties is a separate AI setting.
- Presets: No Dumb Pieces, Strict Traditional, Sleeved Ace, Different Army and Power Couples configure different goals, material limits, fairy pieces and locked items.
Before you start
- Use the Windows client, APWorld and YAML template from release 0.3.2 together. The template declares Archipelago 0.6.2; the client package targets .NET 7 Windows Desktop. The archive includes assets and libraries and is intended to be extracted before launch. Panludia did not run the client or verify the target runtime.
- The setup guide says server, slot and optional password connection settings are saved in a simple text file. Keep that file private. DeathLink is optional; the guide says a received DeathLink closes the game window.
- The option value Reserved is explicitly marked not implemented and described by the maintainer as crashing the game. Avoid it.
- The tagged repository snapshot contains the C# client source but no APWorld source tree. The released APWorld includes readable World code, but its source cannot be compared byte-for-byte with a corresponding repository World tree. No seed, build or runtime behavior was tested.
- The docs describe checkmate as the victory condition and separately state that a player loses after all of their Kings are captured when using extra Kings. Their interaction was not independently tested.
