Sid Meier's Civilization VArchipelago randomizer mod
Build an empire whose technologies, policies and eras arrive from the multiworld. Research and cultural choices send checks, while optional buildings, units, wonders and promotions can turn a familiar strategy campaign into a much larger shared challenge.

How the game changes
- Technology research, social policies and policy-branch choices form the base checks. Their ordinary benefits are received as separate multiworld items, so performing research and receiving its original technology are different events.
- Progressive technologies are enabled by default: seventy-nine technologies other than Agriculture are grouped into eleven categories, giving more orderly upgrades than a fully individual technology shuffle. Progressive Era items unlock later eras.
- Any in-game victory can finish the slot. Victory Goal Logic optionally plans for science, culture or diplomacy; Era Goal Logic defaults to the Information Era, and embarkation logic is enabled by default. These are placement assumptions, not enforced conditions preventing an earlier or different victory.
- Building Sanity adds fifty-three standard building checks. National Wonder Sanity adds eleven national wonders and three guilds; World Wonder Sanity adds forty-seven wonders. Unique civilization buildings count as their standard replacements.
- Unit Sanity adds sixty-six standard unit checks, with documented exclusions for religious units, Great People and spaceship parts. Promotion Sanity adds eighty-three earned promotions to both the location and item pools.
- Settler Sanity makes training settlers send checks and receiving settler items spawn the actual units near a city. Its configurable allowance defaults to ten and can range from zero to twenty. It removes the duplicate settler check from Unit Sanity.
- Research and policy costs have separate percentage modifiers. Optional Super Palace boosts the capital's early yields to help before important technologies arrive; it is off by default.
- Location hints can reveal exact rewards, only their classifications, or nothing. Classification-only is the default. Traps can optionally disguise their classification, and Satellites can optionally introduce every civilization and city-state.
- Weighted filler supplies resources and other bonuses. Traps are off by default, with a separate chance and weighting when enabled. DeathLink is optional, with configurable triggers and weighted penalties rather than necessarily ending your whole campaign.
- The default DeathLink trigger is losing the game, and its default received penalty damages one random unit by twenty-five hit points. Other configurations can react to unit or city loss and apply population, city or barbarian penalties.
Before you start
- Requires the Steam edition with Gods & Kings, Brave New World and all civilization packs. The maintainer's troubleshooting specifies game version 1.0.3.279. The unexpanded base game is not supported.
- Install civv.apworld, generate the room and open your own generated Civ V patch through Archipelago Launcher. It installs a slot-specific CivVAPMod into the user's MODS directory and starts the Civ V Client. This is not a generic mod archive shared between all slots.
- Enable EnableTuner in the game's configuration, but do not run the separate FireTuner SDK program alongside the client. This setting disables Steam achievements; restore it when returning to ordinary achievement-enabled play.
- On Windows use DirectX 11, not DirectX 9. The guide also gives a Linux user-data MODS location, so Linux is listed as an upstream-documented route, not an independently verified Panludia or Proton playtest. macOS mod compatibility is not established here.
- Enter through Mods, enable the matching CivVAPMod, then choose Single Player. Loading a save must use the same mod-enabled path. The connection is not ready until Begin Your Journey or Continue Your Journey has completed.
- Check the mod subtitle against your patch filename. The client validates a unique output-file ID and refuses a mod from another slot. Keep each campaign's patch, save and connection details together and back up saves before switching campaigns.
- This integration changes most of the game's databases and intentionally does not promise compatibility with other mods. If the vanilla technology tree still appears, reload the mod through the main menu before continuing.
- World Wonder Sanity is explicitly unsuitable for synchronous sessions according to the maintainer. Promotion Sanity can demand considerable unit leveling. Leave the additional sanity options off for a more manageable first campaign.
- Logic requirements aim to keep research, culture and victory practical. They cannot describe every strategic position or guarantee a particular map, opponent difficulty or game speed will be enjoyable. Those game settings remain separate from AP's placement rules.
- An occasional Free Policy notification can remain visible even when no free policy is available. The maintainer documents it as a display limitation. Reconnect and synchronization paths exist, but complete campaigns and every recovery scenario have not been independently playtested by Panludia.
