How the game changes

  • Boss and run-and-gun clears, optional grades, secret boss phases, coins, purchases and selected quests supply checks.
  • Weapons can include their EX attack normally, unlock it through a second progressive copy, or split it into a separate item. Essential abilities such as parry and dash can also be randomized.
  • Choose defeating the Devil, collecting contracts or buying out the shop. With owned DLC, Saltbaker and ingredient goals can be selected or combined with base-game goals.
  • Optional DLC adds Ms. Chalice, her own completion checks and King's Leap challenges. The Astral Cookie can start unlocked, follow vanilla acquisition or enter the item pool.
  • Shuffle boss and run-and-gun levels within their categories, or separately shuffle King Dice's mini-bosses. Configure starting weapons, health and island movement.
  • Native local two-player co-op shares one Archipelago slot, with separate starting-health settings. Optional DeathLink applies inside levels with configurable grace deaths; the released client uses the team-loss behavior.
  • The alpha04 mod revises save data, session handling and DeathLink grace synchronization. It remains paired with the alpha03 World series; alpha03l primarily updates setup documentation and packaging metadata.
Explore game mechanics

Before you start

  • This remains an alpha. The reviewed pair is mod alpha04a.3 with APWorld alpha03l and Archipelago 0.6.7 or newer. These mod and World version labels deliberately differ; older pre-alpha03 Worlds are incompatible.
  • The versioned guide offers Gale installation and manual BepInEx 5 setup. To reproduce this review, select the exact releases linked here rather than assuming the latest manager package is identical. Start with an empty save slot, press the displayed setup controls (C+Z on keyboard), enable Archipelago and enter the room and slot.
  • Windows and macOS packages are published. Linux and Steam Deck use the Windows build through Proton with the documented winhttp override. The maintainer reports these OS routes as tested; Panludia has not run them. Back up saves and verify the actual save location, especially on macOS.
  • Back up both Cuphead and Archipelago save files before upgrading an existing run. Alpha04 introduces save-data migration, but review found a mismatch between selected-save and session state in that migration. Save writes are also direct overwrites; successful recovery after interruption is not guaranteed.
  • Check important progress after connection loss. Completed checks are kept locally and resent on a fresh session, but ordinary automatic reconnect does not always flush that backlog. Restart and reconnect to the same room and slot before resuming if progress is missing.
  • Music shuffle, traps and several advanced check options remain unfinished. The per-player DeathLink mode is not applied by this client. Their presence in options or source does not establish released support.
  • Normal logic is the conservative starting point. Hard logic is incomplete; high-grade, pacifist and all-boss Chalice checks can require considerable skill or repetition. Combining level shuffle with plando can break generation.
  • Enable DLC content only when you own The Delicious Last Course. Keep each local Archipelago save tied to its original room and slot; the seed check does not establish full isolation between different slots in one room.
  • Connection settings include a saved room password. Keep save/config files private and redact logs before sharing them. Prefer an explicit wss:// address where the server supports it, since an address without a scheme can fall back to an unencrypted connection.
