COMMUNITY INTEGRATION

Duck GameArchipelago randomizer mod

Turn Duck Game's Arcade challenges into a multiworld: other players unlock your levels and equipment, while your medals send their rewards. This young integration uses a separate Duck Game Rebuilt-based client and is still receiving progression fixes.

How the game changes

  • Arcade levels and weapons become items. A random starting level and its equipment are provided by the world; additional levels and tools arrive through Archipelago.
  • Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Developer medals can be checks. The World includes 30 Arcade levels; choose the number of levels and enabled medal types. World 0.1.1 lowers the default goal from 120 to 90 medals and requires the helmet from Silver onward in SWING MACE.
  • Send Lower Medals can award the enabled lower-tier checks when you earn a higher medal. The requested victory count is capped to the medals actually included in the seed.
  • DeathLink is optional. Amnesty zero means receive-only; a positive number sends a DeathLink after that many local deaths. The connection menu also exposes these settings during play.
  • Thirteen trap handlers and two partly helpful effects are implemented alongside ordinary filler. The current weight map has a duplicated grenade key: Hot Potato is not selected normally and the separate grenade-rain weight is ignored. Keep at least one effective weight positive when traps are enabled.
  • The separate community PopTracker pack tracks the Arcade journey. Client 0.1.1 fixes texture loading, the amnesty notification and sending checks after completing the goal.

Before you start

  • The maintainer distributes a standalone client based on Duck Game Rebuilt, with game code and bundled images, audio and levels. Steam ownership is required by the guide, but a complete redistribution-permission record for these components was not found in the reviewed material.
  • Pair client 0.1.1 with the APWorld release 0.1.1 dated 30 September. Its internal manifest still says world_version 0.1.0 and minimum Archipelago 0.6.7. Client and World are maintained in separate repositories; use the two linked releases.
  • Keep Steam running. Extract the client separately, then use DuckGame.exe on Windows or DuckGame.sh with Mono on Linux. The package includes native libraries for both paths, but these exact builds were not run during this review. Back up normal game profiles first.
  • Enter room settings under Pause > Options > Archipelago, then enter Arcade to connect. The password uses an unmasked text field; avoid including that screen in shared captures. Detailed login errors are not currently exposed by the AP menu.
  • The inherited crash handler contains external reporting of identifiers, machine details, command-line information and logs. Its privacy switch only masks part of that data. Inspect this behaviour before sharing sensitive information through the client or its reports.
  • Keep the room online while earning medals. There is no durable queue for offline results, and the completion message can be sent before the final checks are confirmed. Re-entering Arcade restores confirmed server state but does not recover every unsent result.
  • Use at least three medal types for a first seed. Avoid all-zero effect weights while traps are enabled. World generation changes a shared equipment-classification table, which may affect another Duck Game slot generated in the same process.
  • Active trap cleanup stops on disconnection and its queue is cleared. Timed effects may therefore persist for the current challenge. Try a short seed without traps before using the expanded effect settings.
  • The rebuilt-game source also retains a separate updater aimed at another repository. Its availability is build-conditional and was not tested here; applying a base-game update does not establish compatibility with this AP client.
  • The integration targets single-player Arcade challenges. Shared Arcade progression and compatibility with ordinary competitive lobbies are not established by this review.
