How the game changes

  • Build a fortress around received workshop blueprints, optional crafting permits, immigration waves and goal-specific unlocks. Production, mining, fortress life, missions and combat send checks to the multiworld.
  • Legendary Wealth is the default goal, counting minted coins and cut gems. Alternatives include a summoned megabeast, Mountainhome, the Great King's remains and Dwarfsanity. Population Boom remains labelled unfinished by the maintainer.
  • Craftsanity tracks selected production thresholds or stored goods, optionally split by material. Skillsanity adds selected work/combat skill levels. The in-game panel shows progress, received unlocks and checks inferred reachable by the World logic.
  • The Merchant's Shop offers 50 native caravan purchases in coffer-gated price tiers. EnergyLink can share deposited food, ale or coins. Traps and DeathLink are configurable; secret caves add treasure/hazards without AP checks.
  • Release 2.1.1 corrects cancelled-workshop handling, deferred job/building references, shop material lookup and multiple-caravan purchase handling. Version 2.1.0 added manual sending and performance controls; the client groups 2.0.0–2.1.1 as seed-compatible.

Before you start

  • Install dwarf_fortress.apworld and mods.zip from the same 2.1.1 release, plus Dwarf Fortress and DFHack. Follow the guide's Archipelago 0.6.7 target: the APWorld manifest lists an older minimum, so it is not a reliable compatibility matrix.
  • Connect Dwarf Fortress Client before starting DF. Generate a new world with Dwarfipelago enabled and the DwarfipelagoWorld preset, then choose an embark with gorlaks in the Neighbors list. Raws cannot be added retroactively; missing neighbors make the 50 shop checks unavailable.
  • The trade depot gates checks and item delivery. The mod attempts to place or adopt one; a manually built depot is the documented fallback. Keep a backup of saves and custom world-generation settings before the client refreshes installed-mod snapshots.
  • The client accepts seeds from 2.0.0,2.0.1,2.1.0 and 2.1.1 as one compatibility group. Upgrading from 1.3.x requires both a new multiworld seed and a newly generated DF world. Existing worlds must already contain the required shop raws.
  • For the clearest reviewed route, use Legendary Wealth with crafting permits off. Gauntlets Permit exists in the World but has no matching Lua receiver; Dwarfsanity therefore lacks exact World/mod correspondence. Population Boom is explicitly unfinished. Some difficult checks use approximate prerequisites or depend on world generation.
  • Turning traps off avoids additional hostile spawns and destructive effects. With all crafting permits enabled, one trap exclusion is applied to the initial pool but not to padding. DeathLink can permanently kill citizens; select those effects deliberately.
  • The code persists received-item counts and check queues, but an item index can advance after a failed delivery, and checks are cleared before server acknowledgement. Victory sending also has a latch set before transmission. Reconnection alone does not establish loss-free recovery; back up the fortress and retain logs if progression disagrees.
  • Readable APWorld files and all Lua mod files match the identified source revision after newline normalization, and published archive hashes were verified. Shipped Python caches, complete redistribution notices and an exact DF/DFHack environment matrix remain unestablished. This review did not execute the game or downloaded tests.
