Feeding Frenzy 2 DeluxeArchipelago randomizer mod
Grow through a fish-eating campaign whose next zones and abilities arrive from other worlds. Level completions and growth stages send checks, while optional level shuffle changes the route. Use a dedicated profile: this integration modifies native campaign progress.

How the game changes
- Progressive Fish unlock successive zones. Ten unlocks reach the final zone, with two additional fish items included in the pool. Dash and Suck are separate ability items; 1-Ups fill the remaining rewards.
- The published world defines 147 checks: 59 level completions and two growth stages in each of 44 non-bonus levels. The final level is the boss goal, not an additional ordinary check.
- Optional Level Shuffle rearranges the middle 58 levels while preserving the first and final positions. Checks follow the level content rather than its shuffled position on the map.
- Defeat the final boss to finish. The Dash requirement applies to Back to Boris and all later slots in the linear route, including when level shuffle moves that content earlier.
- Optional DeathLink shares lost lives. Incoming deaths are ignored in bonus content or when no live fish is available; it should not be understood as a guaranteed queued death in every game state.
- The Archipelago launcher registers a dedicated Feeding Frenzy 2 Client with Launch Game, status, borderless-fullscreen and uninstall controls. Both game-specific options are disabled by default.
Before you start
- Install feeding_frenzy_2.apworld, open Feeding Frenzy 2 Client in Archipelago and use Launch Game. Select the directory containing FeedingFrenzyTwo.exe for Steam Deluxe, or FeedingFrenzy2.exe for the original PC edition. The Steam edition starts through Steam, not by launching its executable directly.
- Back up your saves and create a new in-game user for the randomizer. Never use your normal profile. Native campaign progress is not automatically tied to an AP seed or slot. Close both game and client before changing rooms or seeds; a previous shuffle can otherwise remain in client memory.
- The client installs dsound.dll and ff2ap_hooks.dll beside the game. Existing files with those names can be replaced without a backup. The new proxy loads the system audio library directly; it no longer needs a copied dsound_real.dll and removes a leftover copy when possible.
- The hooks remain active on ordinary launches. Close the game and use /uninstall to remove the installed DLLs. This does not restore overwritten third-party files or undo profile changes. Avoid combining audio-proxy mods without preserving the original files.
- Version 0.7.2 adds Linux/Proton launch paths. Run Archipelago natively in Desktop Mode. For Steam, the first launch may create a Proton prefix without loading the mod; close the game and use Launch Game again. The client then writes a dsound override to that prefix.
- Use /status to check that the native hooks connected. The disc edition can launch through umu-run or Wine. Avoid /fullscreen in Steam Deck Game Mode. These Linux paths were inspected statically; this review did not run the game on Linux, Steam Deck or Windows.
- Remain connected while playing. Fish and ability state are resent to a reconnected game, but offline checks and 1-Ups received during disconnection or before a level is available are not guaranteed to be recovered. The final boss notification also lacks durable acknowledgement/retry.
- The local game connection uses an unauthenticated loopback protocol. Keep it within a trusted local session. The native hooks use fixed game offsets without a game-version fingerprint check, so compatibility with a different executable build should not be assumed.
- The release is tagged 0.7.2, but the embedded manifest still declares world_version 0.1.0 and minimum Archipelago 0.6.0. The registered embedded setup tutorial is absent from the package; use the linked repository guide. Identify the installed build by release and hash.
- The package contains integration code and native mod DLLs. A root integration licence and complete third-party notices were not found in the distributed files. Future score checks, fish-species checks and cosmetic randomizers in the README are plans, not delivered features.
