Final Fantasy I Pixel RemasterArchipelago randomizer mod

Take the original Final Fantasy through a multiworld journey: treasure chests and NPC rewards send checks, while key items, equipment and optional class promotions arrive from other games. Keep familiar geography or shuffle your route through towns and dungeons.

How the game changes

  • Chests, item-giving NPCs and the Caravan purchase supply checks. Weapons, armor, consumables, gil and key items can be placed across the multiworld. The King is not a check, and the Caravan check remains attached to its shop even if its entrance moves.
  • The goal remains defeating Chaos. Configure zero to four restored crystals before opening the final dungeon; four is the default. An optional tablature hunt starts you with the Lute and requires a chosen number of the forty tablatures placed in the pool.
  • Class promotion can remain with Bahamut, become one Promote All item, or become six separate job-promotion items. In the item modes, Bahamut becomes a randomized reward location instead of providing the ordinary promotion.
  • Overworld entrances, dungeon entrances and town placement have separate shuffle settings. Dungeons can shuffle internally or between dungeons; towns can stay shallow or appear deeper. Cornelia is protected, and the starting ship route also protects Pravoka.
  • The default early route starts with the bridge built and Bikke holding the ship. The alternative opens a walking path toward Marsh Cave, never builds the bridge and randomizes the ship. Optional northern docks make additional continents reachable by ship.
  • Weapon shops shuffle within their category, armor shops within theirs and spells within their school. These are local shop and spell randomizations, not a promise that every shop purchase becomes an Archipelago check.
  • Monster parties can remain unchanged or randomize with different power variance. Optional upper or lower bounds constrain that variance; boss minions and a weaker Chaos are separate settings. The default randomizes roughly equal-power monsters and weakens Chaos.
  • Encounter rates, XP and gil multipliers adjust pacing separately from navigation and goal requirements. The in-game Boost menu can remain available or be locked. The maintainer's Starter preset uses half encounter rates, triple XP and gil, four crystals and no entrance shuffle.
  • The Citadel of Trials pillar maze is shuffled by default, including in Starter. The Star Ruby still gates the Giant's treasure, and the bridge and canal are not multiworld items.

Before you start

  • This listing is for the Steam Pixel Remaster, not the NES ROM randomizer or a different Final Fantasy edition. Install the mod and APWorld supplied together in release 0.6.3; the world manifest declares world 0.6.0 and Archipelago 0.6.3 or newer.
  • Use BepInEx 6.0.0-pre.2 for Unity IL2CPP Windows x64, initialize it with one game launch, then copy FF1PRAP into BepInEx/plugins. A BepInEx 5 or Mono package is not the documented installation.
  • The bundled setup guide documents Steam Deck and Linux through Proton and the winhttp override. This is an upstream installation route, not an independent Panludia playtest of the current game build or every Proton version.
  • Copy exactly one ff1pr.apworld into the appropriate Archipelago custom-world directory. The maintainer specifically warns against double-click installation and duplicate world copies. Generate a fresh template from that package.
  • Select Archipelago mode at the title screen, enter the exact room slot and connect before starting a new game. Keep a separate AP save and back up ordinary saves before installing the mod.
  • Since 0.6.0, session data is embedded in saves and recorded checks are resent after loading. Keep the accompanying Randomizer data directory with backups too. Resume the same campaign and reconnect if the connection is lost; this does not guarantee arbitrary offline play or save switching is safe.
  • Leave Remember Password disabled if you do not want room credentials stored in local session and save data. Do not share these files or diagnostic logs without checking for private information.
  • Recent releases correct ship placement, hanging event scripts and a canoe script firing near the ship. Use the current package rather than an older setup pinned by a third-party list.
  • No DeathLink option or native co-op is implemented in the reviewed options. Each player controls a solo party connected to the multiworld. Public player feedback is sparse, and Panludia has not independently completed a campaign.
