COMMUNITY INTEGRATION

HacknetArchipelago randomizer mod

How the game changes

  • Almost every mission sends a check. Optional admin-access checks add roughly 140 nodes with DLC enabled; achievement actions and PointClicker upgrades can also become locations. These options greatly expand a campaign beyond its main missions.
  • In-game executables are shuffled individually by default, or can be grouped by region or purpose for quicker delivery. FTP and SSH tools start available by default. Received executable items are files inside Hacknet's simulated computer, not downloaded programs run on your actual PC.
  • Optional Progressive Faction Access gates Entropy, CSEC and the Kaguya Trials. Shell limits can start at one or zero, and RAM limits start at 300 MB with 50 MB upgrades. These are in-game restrictions, disabled by default.
  • Five goals range from Heartstopper, the base ending, to Altitude Loss, Veteran, VIP or Completionist. The latter combines all goals; DLC-dependent goals require Labyrinths content to be enabled.
  • PointClicker can supply checks while retaining its normal upgrades, or block those upgrades until corresponding items arrive. Optional Mission Skips and ForceHacks provide limited assistance; they do not bypass every finale or special node.
  • DeathLink can crash the simulated PC or trigger its Emergency Trace Aversion Sequence. Optional traps include fake connections, theme changes and in-game fork bombs. None of these descriptions refer to deliberately crashing the host operating system.
  • The title-screen connection panel and in-game IRC integrate with the room. Terminal commands include archistatus, rearchi and uncachechecks for connection checks, reconnection and resending cached locations.

Before you start

  • Use HacknetAPClient.dll 1.0.2 with the separately published hacknet-1.0.0 APWorld. The client bundles its Archipelago library and requires Hacknet: Pathfinder. Do not substitute the archived HacknetArchipelago-Legacy mod or the old DiamondGrid downloads.
  • The tagged guide reports testing with Archipelago 0.7.0 and rejects versions earlier than 0.6.1; that does not independently verify every intermediate or future version. Install the world in custom_worlds and follow the current maintainer setup, not legacy lib/worlds instructions.
  • Windows and Linux setup rely on Pathfinder. macOS is unsupported by that loader. If XNAWebRenderer causes a startup crash, the maintainer recommends -disableweb, especially on Linux. No independent Steam Deck test is claimed.
  • Labyrinths is enabled by default and requires owning the DLC. Disable its checks if you only own the base game and select a compatible goal. Exclude Project Junebug can remove its sensitive-content checks, including associated nodes.
  • Back up saves and use a new dedicated campaign per room. Connection metadata and cached checks are saved, but the inspected warning is not a seed-binding guard. Save and reconnect carefully after a drop; documented recovery commands are not a guarantee against every reload edge case.
  • For a conservative first run, set trap_percentage to zero. The inspected 1.0.2 Random Theme selector can choose an out-of-range index; this source-level issue has not been reproduced in a game session. ETAS traps are separately off by default.
  • Executable-transfer missions instead require admin access. A first CSEC connection may disconnect once, and RAM limits take effect after the tutorial. These are documented behavior changes, not evidence that the integration failed to load.
  • The versioned connection UI has limited special-character input. Optional music randomization needs at least 23 OGG Vorbis tracks, not Opus or Theora. Keep debug commands off for ordinary play, and do not assume native shared-save co-op or independent end-to-end certification.
