How the game changes
- Equipment pickups, coins, hearts and tentacles are checks. Their normal collection conditions still apply, including completing quests and striking objects with the appropriate tool.
- Weapons, tools, key items, collectibles and health upgrades enter the multiworld. The graveyard bone and hotel residents are not shuffled.
- Choose the factory boss route, the shorter broken-sword toilet route, or either ending. The boss route needs the Mega Sword to destroy the factory machine.
- Optional progressive swords advance from Broken to Basic to Mega. Reverse progression is available for the toilet goal; ordinary separate swords are the default.
- Entrance shuffle changes room connections. Darkroom knowledge, obscure routes and damage boosts are separate logic settings, while minimum-health mode replaces health upgrades with coins.
- Early Sword makes a weapon accessible near the start. Optional DeathLink includes a configurable death allowance, and Universal Tracker can add a location-tracking tab.
- An extra dolphin interaction provides a heart check. Camera and Press Pass share one location, with only Press Pass entering the item pool.
Before you start
- Use the Steam Windows edition and APWorld release 0.6.12 with Archipelago 0.6.7 or later. Its embedded manifest still reports 0.6.11; identify the download by the actual release tag.
- Open Minit Client from Archipelago, connect to the correct slot, then use /patch. Select the original data.win when asked. The client creates a separate patched file and launches the game with it.
- Keep the original game files and back up saves. A separate copy of the game folder is suggested when installation-folder permissions prevent patching. The itch.io edition is explicitly unsupported.
- Remote items arrive after a respawn rather than immediately during the current minute. The old home-base AP sync pickup described in the packaged overview was removed in release 0.6.3; do not search for it.
- For an accessible first run, enable Early Sword, disable entrance shuffle, obscure routes and damage boosts, and set Darkrooms to Off. The default Minor setting still permits some navigation without a flashlight.
- DeathLink is optional. Source notes record pause and respawn edge cases; leaving it off is the conservative first-run choice. Those notes are not an independently reproduced current defect report.
- Version 0.6.12 repairs missing rules on randomized entrances, particularly water routes. Use the current world rather than an older entrance-randomizer setup.
- The reviewed patcher launches Windows executables. Steam having native Linux and macOS versions does not establish support for this mod on those builds.
