RivenArchipelago randomizer mod

Explore the 2024 remake in a new order as other worlds unlock mechanisms, transport and puzzle knowledge. Visiting places, inspecting objects, reading journals and solving puzzles send checks back to the room.

How the game changes

  • Door, lever, crank, button and object permissions change which interactions are usable. Bridge and platform extensions, maglev throttle levers and Starry Expanse destinations open routes through the islands.
  • Puzzle solutions can arrive as items, allowing the logic to expect knowledge before you have explored the usual clue route. The client shows unlocked solutions alongside a reference sheet.
  • The Star Fissure Telescope solution is split into ten progressive items. Each reveals another numeral. Add up to five spare copies so that ten of a larger pool suffice instead of needing every copy.
  • Good Ending is the default goal, requiring Gehn's capture, Catherine's freedom and opening the Star Fissure. The published world provides 147 checks for this route.
  • The shorter Star Fissure goal removes the need to visit Tay or Age 233 and reduces the pool to 133 checks. It changes the required journey, not just the final label shown by the client.
  • The generated starting route opens either the Golden Dome direction or the Spinning Dome direction. A corresponding starting unlock prevents the opening choice from depending on a later item.
  • Starting movement can be slower, vanilla or faster. Vanilla is the default, with three Progressive Movement Speed items in the pool by default. Their count can be reduced to zero or increased to five.
  • Seven optional visual or movement traps have configurable weights and duration. They default to zero percent. Universal Tracker can be embedded in the client when installed, without needing the original YAML.

Before you start

  • This integration targets Riven's 2024 Steam remake, not Riven (1997). It requires Windows and Archipelago 0.6.7 or later. The base game's macOS version does not establish integration support.
  • Keyboard and mouse are the supported controls. The maintainer warns that controllers and VR may not behave correctly. Disable Quick Travel on Ladders and Hide Vehicle Transitions in the game's input options.
  • Install riven.apworld, launch the game and start a New Game. Then open Riven Client from the Archipelago Launcher, connect the room and slot and wait for the process-found message.
  • The client is bundled with the APWorld and attaches to the running game. No separate mod archive is needed, but the client must remain running and connected while progressing.
  • The setup identifies a specific 138,775,552-byte Riven-Win64-Shipping.exe and SHA-256. Runtime hooks depend on the game build; compatibility with later updates, other storefronts or unrelated mods is not established.
  • Create a new game for each new seed. The game randomizes puzzle solutions when creating that save; reusing a post-intro save repeats its solutions rather than producing a fresh puzzle set.
  • For a continuing room, load its exact save before connecting. The maintainer explicitly warns that attaching to the wrong save can send checks you have not completed in that room. There is no documented automatic save-to-seed protection to rely on.
  • Keep clearly named, separate save backups and stop the client before changing saves or rooms. Reading saved state helps resume the same campaign, but does not prove safe offline play or automatic isolation between campaigns.
  • Puzzle-solution items reveal information rather than proving you found every original clue. The intended logic expects them even if a knowledgeable player could guess or remember a solution.
  • The maintainer considers the first release feature-complete and stable. Panludia has reviewed its public world, client and setup, not independently completed it. Optional visual traps can be uncomfortable; leave them disabled if sensitive to screen effects. No DeathLink or native co-op is added.
