How the game changes

  • Use stage select to pursue emblems and character upgrades across a multiworld. Mission order, level gates and boss requirements shape the route; mission counts can be configured per character.
  • Choose among nine goals: the Biolizard/Finalhazard route, emerald hunts, Grand Prix, boss-rush variants, Chaos Chao or Minigame Madness. Each has its own progression requirements.
  • Optional checks expand into Chao races and karate, Chao stats and activities, keys, whistles, beetles, animals, item boxes, Big fishing and kart races.
  • Version 2.4.6 bundles the AP connection library into the mod DLL. A separate APCpp.dll and the old copy step are no longer needed.
  • The release defers junk-item effects during boss fights and additional controlled or unsafe character states. Those guards are present in the reviewed source; they are not a guarantee that every crash is resolved.
  • TrapLink recognises more incoming trap names. DeathLink, RingLink, traps and minigame difficulty remain configurable, with stage-select progress and item messages to support routing.

Before you start

  • Use the matching 2.4.6 mod ZIP and sa2b.apworld. Its World metadata requires Archipelago 0.6.3 or newer. Install SA Mod Manager and .NET Desktop Runtime 8, launch the unmodified game once, then enable the mod. The supplied troubleshooting text still mentions APCpp.dll; that instruction predates this release.
  • The Steam PC game is required. Battle DLC is needed only when Chao Karate checks are enabled. Optional SADX music requires your own Sonic Adventure DX installation and a local copy of its music files.
  • Linux and Steam Deck instructions run the Windows game and manager through Proton. Launch the game from Steam rather than the manager’s Save & Play button. This review does not validate a particular Proton/game/loader combination.
  • Create a fresh save for a new multiworld and resume the same slot. Keep backups of both main and Chao saves: main-save redirection is enabled, while Chao-save redirection is disabled. Keep IgnoreFileSafety off; save matching exists but is not a complete pre-synchronisation barrier.
  • The room password is stored in mod configuration. Keep it private and avoid reusing sensitive credentials. The connection library can fall back to unencrypted transport after initial TLS failures.
  • Reconnection restores server checks and polls saved local flags. Queued junk and trap effects are not durable, and final victory has no persistent resend queue. After an interruption, check received progression and server completion status before continuing.
  • The setup guide recommends a frame-rate cap for timing/display problems and identifies SA2 Input Controls conflicts with some minigames. Expert logic assumes advanced techniques; extra Chao, collection and minigame options can substantially extend a seed.
  • The package contains music and graphical resources. Their presence in source was checked, but a complete resource-permission and dependency-notice inventory was not established. This describes the available evidence, not a finding of unauthorised use.
