How the game changes
- Level clears, A+ grades, bosses and warp zones become checks. Bandages, general achievements, speedruns and deathless challenges can add optional objectives.
- Chapter Keys open worlds, Boss Keys gate fights and received A+ Rank items unlock corresponding dark-world levels. Character items supply Meat Boy, Bandage Girl and other playable characters.
- Goals include Larries, light or dark Dr. Fetus, completing Chapter 7, boss tokens, a bandage hunt or achievement tokens. The selected goal can force additional required settings.
- Choose included chapters, a starting chapter and a starting character. The world supplies the starting character and chapter key rather than requiring a vanilla unlock grind.
- Boss-key requirements are configurable, with separate handling for light-world Dr. Fetus. Boss-token and achievement-token goals count tokens earned from their relevant checks.
- DeathLink and amnesty are available in Alpha 2. The default amnesty is ten deaths, so difficult platforming need not send a linked death after every failed jump.
- The standalone Windows client reads and updates the running game's memory. Return to level select if a completed check has not appeared; the client performs additional map-screen reconciliation.
Before you start
- This is the author's Alpha 2 release, not a stable certification. Its APWorld declares 1.1.0 and requires Archipelago 0.6.4 or later; install the client and world from that same release.
- Back up UserData/savegame.dat and start a fresh game before connecting the client. Memory access changes progression in the running save, so do not use a valued vanilla save for testing.
- The client targets SuperMeatBoy.exe on Windows. Steam's native macOS and Linux versions are not supported by this Windows memory interface; no verified Proton route is advertised here.
- The README's defaults are outdated: the inspected world defaults to the light-world goal with dark-world levels enabled. Explicitly turn dark-world checks off if you want a lighter first run.
- Christmas levels remain unsupported, and glitch levels are deliberately excluded. Do not enable an old Xmas template option; it is absent from the published options dataclass.
- Received DeathLinks do not work in retro stages. Chapters 6 and 7 retain the game's character restrictions, and Chapter 7 also requires Bandage Girl.
- Dark-world Dr. Fetus still depends on the game's own dark-level completion threshold rather than receiving an invented dark-boss key. Expect a substantial dark-world campaign for that goal.
- The linked extended setup guide is missing and bundled documentation pages are empty; use the README Quick Start and release notes. Bandage display quirks have been reported, and fully offline synchronization is not established.
